At Howell the safety of our students is our number one priority. In order to ensure the safety of Howell student-participants during this warm time of year, all Howell programs will be following the “Wet Bulb Globe Thermometer Heat Modification Policy” during their camps and activities. The Heat Modification Policy that our programs follow can be found below. The heat modification policy will be monitored by the Howell athletic trainer or Howell staff. In addition to having this process in place, we encourage all student-participants to hydrate properly prior to attending activities and camps so that they are prepared for the summer heat.
Wet Bulb Globe Thermometer Heat Modification Policy
The MSHSAA Board of Directors approved the Wet Bulb Globe Thermometer (WBGT) as the recommended measurement practice and device for measuring acceptable heat/humidity levels for practices and contests. The use of WBGT is recommended throughout the calendar year when ambient temperature is above 80 degrees. Below you can find the WBGT guidelines that all programs will follow.
