New for the 2021-22 School year is an approved MSHSAA measure that will allow out of season students to have sport specific practices. This coming Tuesday, September 7th will open this period for winter sports. "Out-of-Season Sport-Specific Practice Periods" are defined by MSHSAA as:
"a period the student is not a member of a school sport team, he/she may have instructional interaction with approved school coaches under the following conditions:
a. Out-of-Season Practice periods are seven weeks in length, and the interaction time may not exceed three hours per week (Sunday to Saturday). Any interaction time, on a given day, will count as at least one hour of the three allowable hours. Interaction time, on a specific day, may not exceed 90 minutes."
Winter sports coaches (boys basketball, girls basketball, boys wrestling, girls wrestling and girls swim) will adhere to these guidelines over the course of the next seven weeks leading up to the winter sports dead period. Winter coaches will be communicating the out of sports season practice periods. Please note that in season fall student-athletes are not able to attend the out of season sport specific practices. This new MSHSAA by-law currently only allows for out of season student-athletes to participate in the practices.
